Citizens Build a Community

Citizens Build a Community

Citizens Build a Community (a registered non-profit organization) was established in November 2004 by local residents and professionals living and working within the city of Lod. Seeking to promote social change and effective solutions to the issues of crime, drug abuse, and poverty, Citizens Build a Community has been implementing projects that focus on the various needs of Lod's diverse and at-risk neighborhoods. Composed of highly segregated communities of veteran Jewish Israelis, new immigrants, Arabs, Bedouin Arabs and others, Lod's municipality has been suffering from huge deficits that have led to the abandonment and closing of many social service centers and organizations.

"Juzur - The Center for Arab Academic Volunteers": A project in the crime laden bi-ethnic city of Lod. The Center is aimed at mobilizing Lod's Arab young adults to the academic world, to meaningful positions in the labor market and to leading positive social change in the city. The Center offers academic guidance for high school graduates and young adults, vocational training, counseling and placement, leadership development and community volunteering frameworks.  Within the framework of the program, Arab young adults additionally volunteer for the year within the community.  “Juzur" has since evolved into an impressive community of young adults, who are more aware, caring and active in their community.
