PlaNet Finance Israel acts as a platform and facilitator for microfinance activities and players with the aim to develop the Israeli microfinance sector through micro-entrepreneurship among populations living in under the poverty line who have no or limited access to banking services. PlaNet Finance Israel helps bring together relevant players, along the legal, social and economic conditions to create a successful local microfinance landscape.
In 60 villages scattered across the Negev 80,000 Bedouins live without access to the national electricity grid, forced to supply their homes with limited, expensive energy via noisy and polluting diesel generators. With credit being virtually non-existent, the high price of purchasing such a system prevents most families from switching to solar. PlaNet Finance Israel's Solar Energy for the Bedouin project aims at improving the living conditions of the Bedouins by providing them with a basic service: access to clean, sustainable and affordable energy via microfinance and carbon credits.
